Greenhouses Participating in the Edible Garden Project

Brock High School, Port Perry High School, and Waverly PS, all with greenhouses, for the first year, are participating in the Edible Garden Project by growing some of the seedlings (tomato, pepper, and basil) for all of the participating gardens.

They will not only grow the seedlings, but will get a good understanding of calculating inventory, and distribution to the over 67 gardens that are participating in spring 2024.

Noteworthy Statistics

With 67 gardens being installing and/or planted in Spring 2024 we will be impacting:

  • 6 375 students that participated in the educational workshops, garden builds, planting, and maintenance
  • The remainder of the student bodies who visit the gardens
  • The students that go home and are inspired to start a garden at home
  • 488 non-profit housing family units

  • Another 20 in the Fall
  • A commitment to complete all 139 schools in the DDSB within the next 2 years
  • We Grow Food’s dozens of dedicated volunteers
  • All of the gardens installed in 2022 and 2023 are being replanted for the new season with fundraising on their own
  • 4 schools have added fruit trees and berry bushes
  • 2 schools have expanded the number of growing beds using their own funds
  • Over 60 teachers and principals have committed to the sustainability of the program with the support of WGF
