From the very beginning, We Grow Food has been a passion project: creating inclusive communities where people can come together to grow food and share joy as we provide stable, local and healthy urban food systems. This has been in response to the rise of food deserts in urban settings, global trade interruptions due to politics, and now COVID-19. This all makes it more expensive to access fresh produce and the cost of living is increasing faster than fixed incomes.
We Grow Food is responding to this need in our community with the help of our, almost 100, registered volunteers. We rely on the kindness and compassion of our many sponsors and partners. Without the generous donations of materials, funds and time spent in the gardens we would not be able to do what we do. Please see below for a list of our many generous supporters who have helped us come this far.
We Grow Food is dedicated to teaching families, communities and individuals how to grow their own food at minimal cost as everyone has the right to access fresh food so they can be their healthiest selves. We believe in creating communities of abundance from scarcity; working together to build sustainable food chains as we all learn to give and receive and share in the harvest feast.
As we continue to grow and create educational outreach programs in the community we need your support.
Please connect with us to donate much needed funds so that we can continue to work in creating self-reliant communities where produce is abundant. Ways to support We Grow Food include;
- Donations of materials like gardening supplies, soil, seeds, tools
- Cash donations that allow us to purchase items like specialized tools that are not available at retail stores
- Sponsoring the building of a raised garden bed
- Sponsoring an educational program that engages youth in learning about sustainable food systems
- Sponsor the purchase of seeds for our home garden kits
Sustained sponsorship will allow us to plan our activities as we grow, allow us to develop further outreach programs with schools and community groups – all in the service of connecting people to fresh, locally grown produce.

“We Grow Food is a dedicated group that, learn, teach, and provide opportunities for everyone…”
We Grow Food is a dedicated group that learn, teach, and provide opportunities for everyone that wish to be part of a Community Garden. They are located throughout Oshawa. All food is share and cared for by each group. They are always sharing and caring for others that ask for what is available at anything. Anybody can get involved all it is a little time and work. The food you know how and where it is grown, safe and secure.

“We Grow Food is an essential community program…”
Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Durham is thrilled to announce our new partnership with We Grow Food. We Grow Food will be regularly donating fresh produce and herbs to CMHA Durham’s food pantry. We are excited to be able to offer this fresh produce and herbs to our existing clients here at CMHA Durham. We Grow Food is an essential community program, that has grown substantially over the years and prides itself on their many dedicated volunteer gardeners that donate their time to see the success of this program. Thank you for choosing CMHA Durham to partner with We Grow Food!!!
