Kitchen Garden Kits

In response to COVID-19, We Grow Food (WGF) created the Kitchen Garden Kit Program.

We Grow Food believes that, not only is access to fresh produce important, but it is important to learn how to grow some of our own food. With the help of the Kitchen Garden Kits, individuals and families can start to grow some of their own food at home.

The Kitchen Garden Kits include: one planter, nutrient soil, assorted seeds and seedlings, and educational materials to get your started.

In the spring and summer of 2020, WGF handed out 250 FREE planters with the financial support of some of our private funders, including Taking IT Global and the Carea Community Health Centre. As we followed up with participants on the progress of their kits, we saw a genuine enthusiasm in sharing what they were growing and how they were learning about growing food. Many of the participants used some of their extra seeds to plant even more food in their back yards or in pots on their balcony.

Cold weather months come and go, and we can feel a melancholy as the garden season ends. WGF wants to help you by providing you with more Kitchen Garden Kits, educational opportunities, and indoor herb planters.  Transplanting, propagation and growing from seed are topics that we will sharing with you virtually.

In the winter months, the Kitchen Garden Kits will contain: planters, potting soil, cuttings and transplants of  thyme, sage, rosemary, dill, oregano, as well as seeds to grow micro greens.

WGF has been mapping the Kitchen Garden Kit program’s success, in the hopes of connecting all of these amazing urban farmers together. Visit the Mapping page to see this mapping project in progress.
